2024 Score-Card: MMA Customs Showcases Spectacular Performance with Unmatched N180.5bn Revenue, N10.5Bn worth of Contraband Seizures

As the New Year 2025 rolls on, the Controller, Murtala Muhammed Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller Michael Toyin Awe has reeled out a comprehensive overview of the command’s performance scorecard for the year ended 2024, which is spectacularly unprecedented and shows huge commitment of the command to enforcing Customs Laws, Regulations, Facilitating Trade and Upholding the Highest Standards of Integrity and Professionalism.
According to the press release statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer CSC VU Ogagbor, the command performance in its revenue mandate was highly unprecedented as the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller MT Awe disclosed that the command achieved a significant milestone in revenue generation to the tune of One hundred and Eighty Billion, Seven Hundred and Fifty Million, Seven Hundred and Eighty-Six Thousand, Eight Hundred and Forty-Four Naira, Thirty-Six Kobo Only (N180,750,786,844.36K) in 2024 as against Ninety Billion, Four Hundred and Twenty-Six Million, One Hundred and Eighty-Five Thousand, Four Hundred and Forty-Seven Naira, One Kobo only. (N90,426,185,447.01K) that was generated in 2023.
This revenue feat shows an increase of Ninety Billion, Three Hundred and Twenty-Four Million, Six Hundred and One Thousand, Three Hundred and Ninety-Seven Naira, Thirty-Five Kobo Only (N90,324,601,397.35), which represented 99.89% rise.
Similarly, the command under Comptroller Awe’s watch also significantly surpasses its 2024 target of One Hundred and Seventy Nine Billion, Seven Hundred and Thirty Nine Million, Two Hundred and Forty-One Thousand, Five Hundred and Twenty Six Naira, Thirty-Six Kobo only (N179,739,241,526.36), with an increase of One Billion, Eleven Million, Five Hundred and Forty-Five Thousand, Two Hundred and Twenty-Two Naira Only (N1,011,545,282.00), when compare with the generated total sum of One hundred and Eighty Billion, Seven Hundred and Fifty Million, Seven Hundred and Eighty-Six Thousand, Eight Hundred and Forty-Four Naira, Thirty-Six Kobo Only (N180,750,786,844.36K). This increment further shows an 0.56% increase for the entire year.
The CAC however said, the rare feat demonstrates the command’s commitment to excellence and constant dedication to enforcing government fiscal policies.
In a similar vein, the command also took pragmatic steps in the enforcement of trade laws and achieving robust Anti-Smuggling feat.
Comptroller MT Awe who was among the few senior officers of NCS that got a rare extension of service due to excellence performance and dedication to work duty, also said in the relentless pursuit of safeguarding the nation and protecting the citizens against illicit trade, the command made significant seizures with a cumulative Duty Paid Value (DPV) of Ten Billion, Five Hundred and Eleven Million, Eight Hundred and Eighty-Nine Thousand, Seven Hundred and Ninety-Nine Naira Only (N10,511,889,799).
The breakdown of the seized items include: 21 packages of 225mg Tramadol Hydrochloride 50 round 9mm Live Ammunition: 54 packages of Military Hardware; 46 packages of Dried Sea Cucumber; Three (3) packages of Dried Donkey Male Genitals; 55 pieces of Jojef Tomahawk Semi-Automatic Rifle; 50 packages of Dried Canadian Cannabis; 225 pieces of Drones 250 pieces of turtles; One (1) package of pangolin skin 1 package of porcupine, thorns, and mineral stones
He further pointed that the seizures are a testament to the Command’s keen commitment to enforcing Customs laws and regulations.
On stakeholder’s engagement, the command was said to have over time build a robust relationship with all tiers of stakeholders, as the CAC said the command maintained an open-door policy, engaging with stakeholders, sister agencies, and the media to resolve issues of common interest.
This synergy, according to him has been instrumental in the success recorded, while the support and cooperation we have received from the said stakeholders are well appreciated.
Moving forward, the CAC assured that the command will continue to innovate, strategize and block loopholes to ensure they meet their revenue targets and remain committed to facilitating trade while enforcing Customs laws, regulations and upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.
He however concluded his press statement by expressing sincere gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi MFR and his management team for their support and encouragement, and as well commended the hard work and dedication of the officers of the command who have made the achievements possible.
