The new Customs Sheriff at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Command (MMAC) of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptroller MT Awe is said to be a known Customs figure at the command.
Comptroller Awe is believed to have served at different formations within the command as Officer in Charge when he was wearing his Assistant and Deputy Comptroller ranks. Notable among where he served is when he was DC in Charge of Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU) of the Command and was instrumental to huge revenue collection successes achieved in that period. His ability to swiftly detect antics of duty evaders and block revenue loopholes is said to be rife.
Stakeholders at the command unanimously affirmed that, Awe is a well experienced customs officer with technical ability who is well versatile with customs books and rules (especially CEMA), as they noted that his on the job articulation and versatility is unrivalled.
There is no doubt that Comptroller Awe’s deployment to head the MMA command has come with huge expectations, his carriage so far seems to be pointing in a positive direction to consolidate on what he met on ground and further improved on the command’s mandates of revenue generation, anti-smuggling, as well as facilitation of legitimate trade.
This is as well in consonant with his speech during the handing-over event as he took over the mantle of leadership, when CAC Awe according to his words said that even though he is not entirely new at the Command, that he will consolidate on the existing structure which requires the cooperation and support of all and sundry.
