KLT Customs Soars High in Revenue Collection, Compliance, Sets New Record of N89.2Bn in 6 Months

The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has measured up above scale in terms of revenue collection performance, enforcement of compliance and facilitation of trade through targeted commitment and productive driven operations.

The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Command, Comptroller (Mrs) Eghosa Joy Edelduok was in the news for the right reasons recently, as she presented an unprecedented operational report of the Command for the first half of the year between January to June 2025.

In a press briefing statement which was held on Friday, 15th August 2025, and made available to the media by the Public Relations Officer, CSC VU Ogagbor, the CAC stated that the first half of 2025 was active and productive, driven by a firm commitment to increasing revenue, supporting legitimate trade, and tackling smuggling in all its forms.

Comptroller Edelduok in the statement said that during the reviewed period, the Command implemented focused reforms, targeted enforcement activities, and practical strategies to boost compliance, protect the national economy, and secure the borders under its jurisdiction, noting that these measures produced clear results and strengthened the Command’s ability to deliver on its mandate.

Reeling out the revenue collection performance, Comptroller Edelduok disclosed that the period under review saw the Command recorded a total collection of Eighty-Nine Billion, Two Hundred and Five Million, Five Hundred Thousand, Seven Hundred and Forty-One Naira, Eighty Five Kobo (₦89,205,500,741.85) only.

According to her, the figure represented a substantial increase compared to the corresponding period in 2024, which stood at Fifty-Four Billion, Eight Hundred and Six Million, Eight Hundred and Ninety-Three Thousand, Six Hundred and Ninety-Seven Naira (₦54,806,893,697.00) only

In addition, she said that the difference of Thirty-Four Billion, Three Hundred and Ninety-Eight Million, Six Hundred and Seven Thousand, and Forty-Four Naira, Eighty-Five Kobo (₦34,398,607,044.85) only, reflects a 63 percent growth, which demonstrated that the Command has enhanced its operational efficiency and improved compliance levels.

In the Anti-Smuggling mandate of the command in the period under review, Comptroller Edelduok reported that the enforcement unit of the Command maintained a posture of alertness, discipline, and zero tolerance for infractions, as she disclosed that the enforcement team intercepted two (2) forty-foot containers, identified as HLBU 1067338 and HLBU 2239792, both loaded with expired pharmaceutical products.

She puts the cumulative Duty Paid Value (DPV) of both containers at One Hundred and Thirty Million Naira (₦130,000,000.00) only.

She as well stated that the items contravened the provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 and other import laws, adding that the Command has handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for necessary action.

She reaffirmed the command’s commitment to applying the law without compromise in order to protect public health, and uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, and professionalism in all aspects of its operations.

She assured that the Command would continue to engage constructively with stakeholders through open communication, inter-agency cooperation, and compliance-driven facilitation.

Comptroller Edelduok however expressed sincere appreciation to all stakeholders and partner agencies for their continued cooperation and support, describing their contributions as critical to the effective delivery of the Command’s mandate and the advancement of the national economy.

Similarly, she also commended the officers and men of the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Command for their diligence, discipline, and commitment to duty, urging them to maintain this high standard and continue to uphold the values of the Service in all their engagements.

Comptroller Edelduok conveyed her deep gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, and his Management Team for their strategic guidance, motivation, and the enabling environment provided for operational success.
