CSC Lawal on the Move at Ogun 1 Customs Anti-Smuggling Campaign, Bags Five Prestigious Awards

Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC) MO Lawal, has over the years became a dreaded name, especially in the circle of smugglers and economic saboteurs operating within the Nigerian nation, and presently, the entire Ogun State environ, a smuggling most notoriety axis.
Lawal has over his enforcement operational years’ work with steadfastness and dedication to build for himself all-weather combat ready appanage and have over the years become one of the most unseen enforcement performing maestro whose string had cut through several Customs Area Controller (CACs) of the Ogun 1 Area Command.
The various CACs had in turn, took time to guide jealousy and manage the inherent anti-smuggling prowess of Lawal, which had variously translated into huge and unprecedented enforcement feat to the advantage of the command and the service, and in the process, CSC Lawal had bagged several accolades and commendations, especially from the customs high command, local and international communities.
His vibrant enforcement exploits led to the creation of his unit as the Coordinator in Charge of CAC Compliance Team, to police the entire Command, which means that, his compliant team can operate from any part of Ogun State through information profiling.
Since the creation of the unit, aside his past feats, the Lawal led unit had transform to become the enforcement heartbeat of the Ogun 1 Area Command, while past and present Area Comptrollers have continued to eulogize his efforts in the overall command’s performance.

It would be recalled that his dreaded team had severally engaged notorious smugglers, survived many scares, and busted smuggling activities from difficult terrain whether both on land and waters.
For example, we will not forget when we (TransQest reporter) witnessed the part of October 19, 2025 anti-smuggling incident when Lawal led team bursted smuggling activities through the canoes on Ipokia waterways. It was a highly daring sight to watch, as we also watched video of officers swimming on waters to intercept seizures.
Massive rice seizure is a regular occurrence for the team who sometimes in about two months ago intercepted 2021 Rolce Royce Ghost and 4natic Mercedes Benz through intelligence profiling. The seizures tagged to this team on a daily basis is just too numerous to start listing.
However, CSC MO Lawal Compliance Team’s efforts for the year 2025 was recently rewarded once again when, he clinch and dominated multiple seizure award categories during the recent celebration of excellence to mark the 2025 Ogun One Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) end of the year event.
The 2025 edition of the command Annual Award Gala Night for the command was indeed a celebration of exceptional performance, with CSC MO Lawal, the Compliance Team Coordinator taking off the shine at the event, having emerged as the standout winner, which claimed five major awards.
The event, held in Idiroko, was chaired by Deputy Comptroller Yusuf, the Chairman of the award committee of the event, which was held at the command’s headquarters in Idiroko border, in his opening remarks reiterated that the gathering was not just to celebrate the winners, but the entire collective spirit of achievement as exercised by operatives of the command.
He however said, the level of performance of the Coordinators this year was truly exceptional, noting that the ceremony is aimed to “set a new benchmark” for the Command.
While reeling out the awards list it was confirmed that CSC MO Lawal’s unit bagged the most prolific enforcement team of the year, as his led Compliance Team won the following categories:
✓ Patrol Team with Highest Number of Seizures for the Year
✓ Patrol Team with Highest Value of Seizures
✓ Team with Highest Seizures of Foreign Vehicles
Team with Highest Seizures of Rice
✓ Team with Single Highest Seizures of Duty Paid Value.
Meanwhile, the Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, personally commended the top performer. When asked about the officer who “bagged 5 car votes,” DC Afeni stated, “He is a transparent officer, and he won. I have known him for a while, and I know his capability.”
Generally while addressing officer and men of the command, the newly deployed Area Controller urged all to aim higher as the 2025 year draws close to pave way for a brand new year 2026.
Next year, they should try. If they win, we will give them.” Looking ahead to 2026, he declared ambitious plans:
“We are already setting in motion machineries to make sure that Ogun 1 Command becomes not only an enforcement zone, but a revenue-generating zone too.”
DC Afeni described the ‘Gala’ event as an initiative to help officers balance their workload and unwind in a very relaxed manner. It successfully recognized outstanding contributions, while motivating the entire Idiroko Customs formation towards greater achievements in the coming year.

Chief Superintendent of Customs MO Lawal is a native of Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State who joined the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in 2011 as a Commission Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Customs II (ASCII).
He was quick to discover his enforcement gift and skills and had nurtured it to the present.
His first duty posting was to Edit/Delta, and had transverse few other commands/units before his deployment to his present disposition, Ogun 1 Area Command of the NCS.
As an enforcement performing officer, Lawal had served in several enforcement capabilities within the service, including defunct CGC Strike Force and Border Drill Sector IV.
We recounted how he within 72 hours bursted and intercepted 1,226 rice seizure at Ikuru Beach, Calabar in 2019, while his duty call at CGC Strike Force Zone ‘C’.
Similarly, in his about one year stint at CGC Strike Force Zone ‘B’, seizures of his led team up his sleeves were too numerous to mention.
CSC MO Lawal is a Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) Degree holder, as well as Masters from Ladoke Akinola University of Technology, (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho. He is a member of Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM).
