PTML Customs Continue to Foil Illegal Imports, As Compt. Anani Hands over Arms & Ammunition Seizure to NCCSALW
*Showcases Remarkable Revenue Record of N44Bn in January

The South West Coordinator, National Center for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), South West Zone and members of his entourage were on ground earlier today Friday January 30th, 2026 at the Ports and Terminal Multiservice Port (PTML) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), to take possession of massive collections Arms and Ammunition that were serially intercepted at different period by the command.
Comptroller Joe Anani, the Customs Area Controller of the Command, while taking charge of the event, said it underscores three very important areas of the functionality of the NCS. He firstly pointed that the event expressed the command’s anti-smuggling resolve at ensuring that prohibited items do not escape from its jurisdiction, as they often carry out thorough checks. Also, he informed invited guests present, that the command is committed to ensure that only legitimate trade thrives within their borders, as he as well underpin shared commitment to inter agency collaboration, fostering cooperation.

During the handing over exercise which was said to have pertinently followed the approval of the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR psc(+) under whose supervision these seizures were made, Comptroller Anani disclosed that the arms and ammunitions were uncovered in 25 different occasions by officers of the command during examination of imported vehicles between 2022 to 2025. Also present at the event were Management Members of Port and Terminal Multi-services Limited, sectional heads present, Heads of sister agencies, and officers and men of the command, as well as the press.
These seizures according to him comprised of Five (5) pistols of different make; One (1) Crossman pump master rifle; One hundred and thirty two (132) numbers of Remington live cartridges; Fifty one (51) numbers of 9mm Lugar live ammunition; Four (4) Numbers of 9mm magazines; Fourty (40) Numbers of 9mm, NIM FC 30-30 blank and hollow ammunitions; and One hundred and eighteen numbers (118) of 9mm empty shells.
In his words, “These seizures are fallout of the collective due diligence of the command and other sister agencies in the port. We are using this occasion to reiterate that PTML remains a no go area for unlawful trade under any guise” Anani said.
“As a command, we have an unshaken commitment to implement the Revised Kyoto Convention, which is a World Customs Organisation (WCO) instrument for trade facilitation while using available manpower and technology to exercise the required control for import and export trade.

“Under the NCS Modernisation Project, which began in this command, the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS) also known as B’Odogwu has raised the bar of our productivity. I am pleased to announce that this command will receive scanners soon as part of the modernisation project and our capacity to detect concealments, like these arms and ammunition would be greatly enhanced”, the CAC said.
Anani however thanked all compliant stakeholders for their cooperation at all times, stressing that they are all part of this command’s success story, while urging them to keep it up.
Comptroller Joe Anani used the occasion to showcased the remarkable success of the command in its revenue collection drive, as he disclosed that about two(2) days to the end of the month of January 2026, the command collected a total sum of forty four billion, fifty eight million, eight hundred and forty nine thousand, four hundred and sixteen naira, sixty five kobo (₦44,058,849,416.65), which surpassed the forty billion, four hundred and ninety seven million, five hundred and ninety four thousand, two hundred and twenty three naira, eighty nine kobo (N40,497,594,223.89) collected in the preceding month January, 2025 by three billion, five hundred and sixty one million, (N3,561,255,192.76), and representing 8.8% increase in revenue.
He however on behalf of the CGC, formally handed over the above stated seizures to the National Center for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) for appropriate action.
