The Apapa Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is indeed blessed with successive visionary leaders who keep leading the command into a heightened level of performance through tough decisions and measures in its core mandates of revenue collection, anti-smuggling campaign and facilitation of legitimate trade.

The coming on board of the incumbent Customs Area Controller (CAC of the command), Comptroller Babatunde Olomu which was greeted with huge enthusiasm by industry watchers due to his popularity, as a well-known performer judging by his antecedent is currently walking gallantly through the expected performing rope.

With a groundbreaking daily revenue collection record of N17,903,312,598 on June 14, 2024, being the highest since the inception of the command, it could be said that Olomu, along with his retinue of vibrant officers in the command is working through the tough talk.

This landmark daily collection feat which according to the CAC was recorded despite significant decline in cargo throughput at the seaports, tends to mark the high point of better days ahead of the command under the watch of the well learned and famous CAC.

Similarly in the command ‘s well repositioned anti-smuggling campaign, the CAC revealed that the seizure of two containers laden with used clothing and crusader soap made by his vigilant officers during the one month period he took charge at the command ‘s highly exalted CAC seat.

Comptroller Babatunde Olomu who made this disclosure during a recent press briefing, however described the feat as the beginning of many revenue collection, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling exploits to be achieved by the command in discharging its assigned statutory duties.

Interestingly, he added that the unprecedented collection is a way of celebrating one year in office of Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, whose inspiring and motivating leadership has contributed greatly in what the command recorded thus far.

Olomu, who assumed office as Area Controller of the nation’s premier port command a month ago, said the officers and men of the command under his watch are ready to sustain and surpass the tempo and up the ante.

Comptroller Olomu also urged port users to always abide by the tenets and etiquette of lawful operations such as obeying the extant import and export guidelines, prompt and accurate payment of duty and promotion of regular engagement in the national interest.
