Customs CG, Adeniyi Commissions Major Projects at Seme Customs, as Oramalugo Unveils New Facilities

It was yet another attraction at the Seme Border Area Command, of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), yesterday Monday, May 19, 2025, when the Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR had immediately after the ‘SIGMAT’ launch at the ECOWAS building, proceeded to customs officers’ Mess to commission some major infrastructures aimed at boosting officers’ welfare and well-being.
At the commissioning exercise, it was an electrifying moment that got the gathering in awe, when Comptroller (Dr) Ben Oramalugo PhD mount the stage to give his address, while the CGC watched with keen interest how the historian CAC reeled out several quotes of historical background, especially as it relate to the berth of Customs operations in Badagry and later to Seme.
During the exercise, three major infrastructure projects, which include a newly renovated Senior Officers Mess, a fully equipped Gym House, and a state-of-the-art Office Complex for the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) were commissioned by the CGC.

Meanwhile, the historic event, was described as a significant milestone in the Command’s ongoing efforts to improve welfare, professionalism, and community development.
The commissioning ceremony, held at the Command headquarters in Seme, was attended by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, who personally unveiled the facilities. According to stakeholders, his presence was a demonstration of his commitment to officers’ welfare and the modernization of the Service.
Dr. Ben Oramalugo, PhD, further in his address expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General, whom he described as a detribalised Nigerian, as he as well highlighted the significance of the new projects.

While still appreciating the Comptroller-General of the NCS, Oramalugo said the projects being commissioned were a direct reflection of CGC Adeniyi’s policy focus on collaboration, consolidation, and innovation. “Your leadership has inspired us at Seme Command to aim higher and push boundaries. These projects are a result of that vision,” he said.

Oramalugo, who described the occasion as more than just an unveiling of physical structures, but a celebration of collective vision, hard work, and progress, also acknowledged the critical role of COWA in supporting customs families and implementing community-based initiatives. He assured the association that the new facility would strengthen their ability to deliver impactful programs and serve as a hub for innovation in the border community.

On the Senior Officers’ Mess, Dr. Oramalugo said that, it will serve as a space for relaxation and professional bonding, while the COWA Office Complex shall underscores the recognition of the vital role played by the officers’ wives in supporting the Service and enhancing family welfare.”
The CAC however commended the officers and men of the Command for their dedication and excellence in service delivery.

Oramalugo used the occasion to reel out the command performance chart as he disclosed that between January and April 2025, the Command generated more N2.83 billion revenue, as well as processed more than 184,000 metric tonnes of export goods valued at over N36billion.
On the anti-smuggling campaign if the command, which is another core mandate, the CAC noted that the Command under his watch had intensified its anti-smuggling efforts which l led to significant seizures with over N800million Duty Paid Value (DPV) within the period under review, with significant arrest made.
Similar, Comptroller Oramalugo appreciated the robust collaboration that existed between the command and other sister security agencies, which he said had been a fulcrum of maintaining security and stability at the nation’s busiest borders.
He concluded by urging officers to utilize the new facilities responsibly to enhance morale and service delivery. “Let the Officers Mess be a place of unity and renewed commitment, and let the COWA Complex become a centre of empowerment and community impact.”
The commissioning marks another step in the Customs Service’s broader agenda of reform and transformation, reinforcing the importance of officer welfare, community support, and operational excellence at the nation’s borders.
