Onyeka led TinCan Customs Revenue Hits Monthly All-time High in May with over N128bn Collection

The Tin Can Island Port Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), have continued to cruise on with a monthly geometric progression revenue collection since the advent of the incumbent Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Frank Okechukwu Onyeka.

Once again, the command posted an all time high total revenue collection figure of N128.4billion in May 2024. This is yet another unprecedented collection figure in the history of the command, as it keeps breaking own record on a month to month basis.

According to a press statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Oscar Ivara, the collected figure is against N92.6 billion generated in the corresponding month of May in 2024.

Also, the statement attributed the feat to the dedicated leadership of Comptroller Frank Okechukwu Onyeka who has continued to lead the record breaking performances in all areas of the command’s responsibilities.

“The Command has persistently churned out record revenues since the turn of the year, its stakeholders engagement has also been commended to be top notch going by many indications.

“The record of the revenue generated shows that in the month of May, a total of one hundred and twenty eight billion, four hundred and forty six million, three hundred and twenty three thousand, two hundred and twenty four naira, seventy nine Kobo (₦128,446,323,224.79k) only was generated.

“This figure is far above the ninety two billion, six hundred and seventy one million, six hundred and three thousand, four hundred and eighteen naira, four kobo (₦92, 671,603,418.04) only generated in the corresponding month of May, 2024.

The statement added that the revenue figure for April 2025 stood at ₦145 billion and is also a significant increase over the figure of N95.5billion collected in the corresponding period of April 2024.

Meanwhile, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Frank Okechukwu Onyeka, had continued to put in place pragmatic measures at ensuring the TimCan Island Area Command of the service rise up to the task of mobilizing for all collectable duties from dutiable items that emanated through the command without compromise.

Onyeka further maintained and reiterated that his aim is to continue to generate revenue seamlessly from legitimate trade, while encouraging trade facilitation. He emphasized that, such duty collection must be on legitimate trade, which are not harmful to the economy.

Comptroller Onyeka has upon assumption of office at the Command in December 24, 2024, keyed into the policies of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, and he has continued to match actions to words as his records of performance at the Command so far has revealed a general increase in month on month performance in the area of revenue generation.

With a prepared mind to the onerous task at the command, Onyeka’s persistent robust engagement with traders and stakeholders on the need to tap into the opportunity of rare trade facilitation concept being adopted at the command and embrace genuine trade balance and legitimate declarations, had led to a landmark reduction in the importation of unwholesome goods through the TinCan Island ports.
