Things are indeed looking upwards for Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), TinCan Island Port Area Command under the watch of the incumbent Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Frank Okechukwu Onyeka, as the command has continued to record unprecedented feat never before envisioned.
Revenue performance ratings of the command tends to have shot up astronomically since Comptroller Onyeka took over leadership reigns in December 2024, as the command has been unrelenting in its undertaking task to improve the lot of her revenue collection, anti-smuggling and trade facilitation mandates to the admiration of all, especially the customs high command and industry watchers.
An assertion to the command’s remarkable performance was the recent mind-blowing revenue performance record of N1,576,507,651,601.84 realised do far in the year 2025 as at December 23, a figure that has already overran the N1,524,669,999,478.52 target for the command in 2025.
The elated CAC, Comptroller Frank Onyeka made this disclosure during the command’s end of the year press briefing held in its TinCan Island Port Area Command headquarters on Tuesday December 23rd, 2025, as he further stated that the figure exceeded the command’s annual target by over N51,837,652,129.32, in a milestone effort that reflects discipline, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to duty.
“Today’s briefing gives me great pride, not just as the Customs Area Controller of Tincan Island Port Command, but as the leader of a dedicated team of officers and men who have worked tirelessly to deliver results for our service and the nation.
“This growth did not happen by chance; it is the outcome of deliberate reforms, improved processes, and collective responsibility”, the CAC stated.
Onyeka however revealed that the major revenue contributors of the command remained bulk cargo, general merchandise, and the importation of used vehicles, which constitute a significant volume of trade passing through the Port.

He noted that, through diligent cargo examination, and strict adherence to customs procedures, the Command ensured that government revenue due on these imports was fully collected, revealing that, one of our key focus areas in 2025 was the elimination of revenue leakages and operational inefficiencies.
Similarly, he said his led team deliberately addressed the issue of multiple and unnecessary alerts, which had previously bedeviled and slowed down clearance processes and created room for abuse.
He said that by streamlining Alerts and strengthening internal coordination, his led management have improved efficiency while at same time maintaining effective control.
He as well pointed that his leadership also made conscious efforts to create an enabling environment for legitimate trade, which at the end, the Command sustained regular and meaningful engagement with stakeholders which included importers, licensed customs agents, terminal operators, and shipping companies among others.
Anti-Smuggling
Comptroller Frank Onyeka also harp on his led management’s vibrant efforts in the command’s anti-smuggling mandate, which he said his led ooeratives put up spirited intelligently driven efforts to nip in the bud nefarious activities of smugglers, duty evaders and economic saboteurs.
“Beyond revenue collection, the Command remained firm on its enforcement mandate which was achieved through intelligence-driven operations and vigilant monitoring.
“In the course of the year, we recorded significant seizures of prohibited and improperly declared goods, including items imported in contravention of existing laws and regulations.
“These seizures are a clear reminder that while we facilitate trade, we will not compromise national security, public safety, or economic integrity”, the CAC stated.
Onyeka also stated unequivocally that the attainment of the command’s annual revenue target does not in any way signify a relaxation of operational standards or enforcement activities, as he pointedly noted that the Command will not ease its vigilance, even for the remaining part of the year.
“All officers and men of the Command remain fully mobilized and operationally focused to sustain revenue generation, intensify compliance enforcement, and ensure that every legitimate collection due to the Federal Government is assessed, collected, and accounted for”, he said.
The undisputedly hardworking and cheery Area Comptroller was full of of eulogies and deep appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR psc (+) for his exemplary leadership, clear strategic direction, and consistent institutional support to Commands, noting his commitment to professionalism, automation and constructive stakeholders engagement has provided a solid framework upon which the achievements of this Command have been built.
A frankly imbued CAC however hinted that, the Command remains firmly guided by his vision and is aligned with the Service reform and modernization agenda.
Onyeka also unequivocally commended his led command’s stakeholders for their cooperation and improved compliance with customs regulations, and as well extending appreciation to the officers and men of the Command for their discipline, and hard work which they continue to demonstrate in the discharge of their duties.
Moving forward, Comptroller Frank Onyeka promised that the Command shall remained steadfast in its commitment to consolidating on these gains, deepening transparency and contributing effectively to the growth of the Federal Government’s fiscal policies.
