One Month, So Much, As Adewole Showcases his Anti-Smuggling Masterpiece with Humongous N2.7Bn Worth of Seizures at Oyo/Osun Customs

Undoubtedly, there is seemingly an operational reawakening of Customs activities at the Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), especially with recent developments in the command’s Anti-Smuggling drive, which has come alive with a bang.

With recent deployment of Deputy Comptroller of Customs (DC), Moses Adewole as Acting Customs Area Controller (CAC), a guru in decades of enforcement experience, there tend to be a paradigm shift in terms of performance, specifically as recent Anti-Smuggling exploits and revenue dictate of the command.

An attestation to this was witnessed yesterday Thursday January 28, 2026, when the new Customs Sheriff, DC Moses Adewole had his maiden press briefing at the Oyo/Osun Agodi headquarters house of the command surrounded with an humongous seizures worth Two Billion, Seven Hundred and One Million, Seven hundred and Sixty-Two Thousand, Five Hundred and Fifty-Eight Naira Only (N2,701,762,558.00) that were intercepted across several locations within the command’s jurisdiction in just one month of his leadership reign starred the face of all invited guests and journalists present.

Undoubtedly, this Anti-Smuggling record which is unprecedented and unmatched since the creation of the command, has justified the recent ’round peg in a round hole’ re-organization and deployment carried out on some enforcement commands by the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi MFR, which involved Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘A’, commands of Ogun Area 1, Kwara and Oyo/Osun, as equally attested to by the CAC.

According to the Acting CAC, the Oyo/Osun Area Command under his watch and during the period under review recorded notable operational successes in line with the Service’s mandate of revenue generation, suppression of smuggling, and protection of the national economy.

‘Within one month of my assumption as the Acting-Controller, the Command made significant seizures with a cumulative Duty Paid Value (DPV) of Two Billion, Seven Hundred and One Million, Seven hundred and Sixty-Two Thousand, Five Hundred and Fifty-Eight Naira Only (N2,701,762,558.00)’, the CAC said.

Highlights of the seizure included, 2,234 bags (50kg) of Foreign Parboiled Rice with N385,210,215.00 Duty Paid Value (DPV); 1,112 Pieces of Used Tyres of N256,392,990.00 DPV; 562 (25Litre) Kegs of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) with N33,683,119.00 DPV, as well as 124 Bales of Used Clothing worth N782,444,250.00 DPV.

Others according to the CAC are 37 Wraps of Cannabis Sativa (Indian Hemp) with a DPV of N4,256,156.00; 15 Pieces Codeine Syrup of N432,169.00DPV; N17,286,750.00 DPV worth of Tramadol in 10 Packs (250MG);  42 Sacks of Used Shoes with DPV N424,507,242.00;  110 Cartons of Foreign Spaghetti of N8,549,888.00 DPV.

Also, enforcement operatives of the command intercepted 150 Pieces of

Used Compressors with N15,000,000 DPV; Pharmaceuticals in 107 Cartons of N119,180,250.00 DPV; Fairly Used (Tokunbo) Vehicles  which include One  Toyota Camry worth N95,862,375.00k, One Hyundai Sonata of N59,590,125.00, One Hyundai Jeep N95,862,375.00, One Chevrolet EQ worth N47,931,188.00, and One Mercedes GLE  worth  N103,635,000.00, were also showcased as seizure; and not leaving out Means of Conveyance of Volvo Truck worth N69,018,750.00; Volkswagen Bus of N42,673,275.00 and three J5 bus worth N140,246,441.00. All making a total DPV worth of N2,701,762,558.00

DC Adewole however revealed that that the seized items were intercepted at various flashpoints across the Command’s Area of Responsibility through credible intelligence, sustained patrols, and strategic enforcement operations.

REVENUE

The command also made a remarkable inroad in the area of revenue generation, as the Acting CAC disclosed a total revenue collection of Eight Billion, Three Hundred and Seventy-Four Million, Four Hundred and Seventy-One Thousand, Nine Hundred and Forty-One Naira, Ten Kobo N8,374,471,941.10) for the month of December 2025 alone.

It is however worthy of note that with this collection and according to the CAC’s analysis, the Command surpassed the year 2025 Revenue target having collected the total sum of N86,297,581,081.00k (Eighty-Six Billion, Two Hundred and Ninety-Seven Million, Five Hundred and Eighty-One Thousand, Eighty-One Naira Only) with a Surplus of N13,135, 424, 793.29 (Thirteen Billion, One Hundred and Thirty-Five Million, Four Hundred and Twenty-Four Thousand, Seven Hundred and Ninety-Three Naira, Twenty-Nine Kobo). This resulted to a 15.22% increase of the year 2025 revenue target.

Reflections of the performance were achieved through improved compliance, effective monitoring, and the commitment of officers to lawful trade facilitation.

DC Adewole however reiterated that the Oyo/Osun Area Command under his watch remained committed in its zero-tolerance against smuggling and other forms of economic disruption.

He also said the command will continue to collaborate with sister security agencies and engage stakeholders to achieve our shared objective of national economic security.

The CAC used the opportunity to extend strong warning and caution to smugglers and unpatriotic elements, urging them to desist from their illegal activities, as the Command will not relent in the discharge of its statutory responsibilities.

He also use the medium to appreciate the Executive Governor of Oyo State; His Excellency Engr. Seyi Abiodun Makinde for his unwavering support towards achieving our set goals, not leaving out all stakeholders of the command for their compliance and stance in ensuring the Command achieve set objectives, as well as the Comptroller – General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, for his leadership and support, and I appreciate the media for their cooperation.
